Sydney Ligon (she/her, Houston, TX) born and
raised in Houston, received her dance training
from Kinder High School for the Performing and
Visual Arts under Janie Carothers and Courtney D.
Jones and NobleMotion Dance2 under Andy
Noble, Dionne Noble, and Colette Renee Kerwick
during her high school years. Sydney continued
her dance training at The Ohio State University
under the direction of Charles Anderson and has
recently graduated with a Dance BFA specializing
in Education and Performance with a minor in
Arts Entrepreneurship in May of 2025. She also
received the Morrill Excellence Scholarship and
the Helen P. Alkire Dance Scholarship in 2021 to
attend The Ohio State University her Senior year
of High School. At The Ohio State University, she
was given the opportunity to be taught by Nyama
Mcarthy-Brown, Elizabeth Escosa Carter, Alfonso Cervera, Donald Isom, Eddie Taketa, Ryan Johnson,
Suzan Braford-Kounta, Momar Ndiaye, Crystal Michelle Perkins, Daniel Roberts, Valarie Williams, and
Abby Zbikowski. While at school, she has been able to perform in numerous different projects at the
levels of undergraduate Senior projects, MFA Graduate projects, and Faculty performances. Whilst being
a full-time student, Sydney was also a dance teacher where she taught Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Modern, and
Contemporary at A Sequin in the Stars. Outside of class and work, Sydney was also the Founder and
President of Ohio State’s Black Dance Association and President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated, Theta Chapter. Since graduating, Sydney has recently moved to the “Windy City” of
Chicago, IL, where she continues to enhance her Dance career outside of college barriers in her passions
of performance and educating her community for as long as she can. She hopes to continue inspiring and
uplifting others through her artistry and leadership, building spaces that celebrate movement, culture, and
connection beyond the college stage.
