Born of the arts, Maria Kowal is a multifaceted creator originating from Metro Detroit. Her dance career began not long after she took her first steps and continued to bloom into the most integral piece of her identity. They took classes at several studios in their youth, also attending numerous conventions and competitions. At the age of fourteen, Maria joined the Detroit Urban Ballet under Jodie Svagr, bringing pointe ballet to stages across the city.
Maria received her degree in writing from Columbia College Chicago while continuing her dance education at the college level, focusing on modern, ballet, and improv under Darrell Jones, Emily Stein, and Qudus Onikeku respectively.
Presently, Maria is pursuing many personal writing projects while remaining a prose editor for Mulberry Literary Magazine. She is grateful for the opportunity to share her love for dance and her passion for cultivating a positive creative environment with the TranscenDance Studios family.
